• Info: Saddle up your horse and whistle up your dog, it's time to go hunting! The Songs Without Words are not all soft and lyrical. This one is bold and brassy. Mendelssohn did not title it, but tradition calls it a hunting song. There are loud passages with open fifths that bring to mind hunting horns. There are lots of octaves in the right hand and big jumps in the left hand. This is great training for harder pieces. I worked on this more than any previous recital submission, but there are still a lot of problem areas and missed notes. It is what it is, though, and accurately reflects my skill level right now. Hopefully I have captured the spirit of it. I have studied four of the pieces from Opus 19 now. I hope to do them all some day. 19/1 will be next.
