Info: Composed by Erik Satie in 1904, 'Le Piccadilly' is a ragtime-inspired cabaret piece written at the height of the Parisian Belle Epoque - a golden age for French arts and culture - and when ragtime was also at the peak of its popularity. It borrows from an American song, "Hello! Ma Baby," by Howard and Emerson, performed by Max Morath here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhVRj27GYFc
As it's summer here in the UK, I thought I'd try something a bit more lively than the slow, pensive pieces I usually submit. I enjoy playing ragtime so am used to big leaps in the left hand but the concurrent octave jumps in the right hand as well as having to play all this with the correct articulation and at a breezy tempo made this more challenging than I was expecting. As a result there were lots of mistakes and I ended up recording this many times, which made it difficult to keep things fresh.
Could do with a bit more exuberance in places and needs more control with those octaves in the right-hand - I do bang them out a bit - but overall I'm pleased with the end result.
