Info: "Gymnopedie #4" is one of three solo piano pieces that Stephen Hartke compiled under the title "Post-Modern Homages". He wrote this in 1984, and it is (of course) an homage to Erik Satie. I admit I'm pushing the envelope in calling the Gymnopedie rhythm (a slow one-TWO; one-TWO, etc) a "waltz", but I'll defend it to the extent that the pulse of the piece is in 3 throughout, and that the middle section, in 3/8 feel, is quite waltz-y indeed. The piece is straighforwardly tonal, although there is quite bit of shift from key to key -- really, pretty much as Satie did in his Gymnopedies.
