Info: In a brief interview, Johnny Mandel indicated that "Emily" was the first song he ever wrote. He was working with the team preparing the film "The Americanization of Emily" in 1965, and had played the entire instrumental version for them, believing that it reflected the character of Emily (played by Julie Andrews) quite accurately. They loved it, and agreed to ask no less than Johnny Mercer to provide a lyric. And thus, a new Jazz standard was born. My recording is a transcription of one of the Bill Evans covers, and (of
course) his realization is superb.
