Info: zrtf90: Wow, we have to match Opus 12?! It would have been a harder task had the team not been so wonderful to work with but this motley crew has pulled it out of the hat!
It's been a tough job organising the submissions, watching the videos, poorfreading the text submissions smile and generally making a nuisance of myself but here we all are, it's all come together despite my shortcomings and distractions and I'm proud to present to you the second installment of this Grieg Themed Recital, Opus 38.
We are again grateful to Ganddalf for his inroductory text.
Grieg's Early Musical Education
Edvard grew up near the fish market of Bergen. His childhood home was unfortunately destroyed by an explosion in 1944.
From age of six Edvard received regular piano lessons by his mother. At age of nine he made his first attempts of composing, but these early works ended up in the trash bin. His complete works, however, contain several piano pieces from early years.
At age of 10 he started at Tanks secondary school. He was not among the excellent pupils, but managed some of the subjects fairly well. Once he brought some of his compositions to the school, but they were laughed at both by his fellow pupils and by his teachers.
The summer of 1858 he followed his father to eastern Norway. At that time he was seriously considering becoming a musician. During the holiday he got he played some of his own compositions for his "uncle", Ole Bull. Bull was so impressed by young Edvard that he and Edvard's parents decided to send the boy to Leipzig to study music.
