"Wonderful One" is a popular standard you've never heard of! It charted at #3 on Billboard in 1923 and was performed by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra and it's been recorded dozens of times since (Mel Torme, Doris Day, Tony Bennett, Della Reese...) as well has been featured in several movies.
Paul Whiteman is known as the person who orchestrated Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and he was a popular bandleader of the time. (Gershwin played piano in his band.) The composer was Ferdi Grofe (of "Grand Canyon Suite" fame) and the lyricist was Dorothy Terriss.
Speaking of lyrics:
(Verse)
My wonderful one, whenever I'm dreaming
Love's love-light a-gleaming, I see--
My wonderful one, how my arms ache to hold dear,
To cuddle and fold near to me--
Just you, only you, in the shadowy twilight
In silvery moonlight there's none
Like you, I adore you, my life I live for you
My wonderful, wonderful one--
(Bridge)
Calling, calling dear, Loved one can't you hear--
Each throbbing part of my faithful heart
Come to me, make all my sighs disappear
Sweetheart you must know-- That I love you so--
Awake or sleeping, my heart's in your keeping
and calling you soft and low--
(Verse)
My wonderful one, whenever I'm dreaming
Love's love-light a-gleaming, I see
My wonderful one, how my arms ache to hold dear,
To cuddle and fold near to me,
Just you, only you, in the shadowy twilight
In silvery moonlight there's none
Like you, I adore you, my life I live for you,
my wonderful, wonderful onnnnnnne!
The publisher was Leo Feist, New York. There was some vigorous copyright discussion when the recital was first posted. It's clear, though, that copyright laws enabled a host of entrepreneurs to enter into the music industry around the turn of the century. These folks came from a variety of backgrounds. Leo Feist was a corset-maker.
"Feist" Songs are also obtainable from your Dealer for your Talking Machine or Player Piano and for Band, Orchestra, etc.
