• Info: This impromptu is definitely my favourite of all Schubert impromptus. Beautiful, lyrical, elegant, full of colour, and deceptively simple. I'm sure anyone who has attempted this impromptu will agree that this piece is insanely difficult to play well, even though on the page it looks pretty straight-forward. The main difficulty lies in controlling the balance between the singing melody and the underlying atmospheric texture. Although this recording is still not a perfect performance, I have to say I'm quite proud of myself for persevering through countless numbers of bad takes attempting to bring out the beauty in this piece.
